General Notes for J. R. Clark
This photo was in my Father, Thomas P. Clark's effects, and my Uncle Edwin Paul Clark gave me the photograph. My Father had told me this was an uncle of his who served in WWI. So, I am assuming he was brother of my Grandfather, J. Will Clark as he called himself. The photograph is in a brown photo holder with the US Army eagle.US Navy Eagle and Anchor on the front of the holder. Incused into the paper at the top, between 2 US flags, are the crossed rifles of the Infantry branch. At the bottom is an anchor for the US Navy. So, the folder served both Armed Services. It was made at Hammond Studio, Meridian (presumably Mississippi). Handwriting on the folder inside the folder it says: "Yours Truly. Serg. J.R. Clark, 141st MG Bn, 89th Div. As he is dressed in the uniform of a WWI Army Sergeant, it is presumed he served during WWI. My Father mentioned an uncle, perhaps this one, who served on the war front in France during WWI but had no other details. At the time, I really didn't think to ask him more.
