General Notes for Ananiah Gifford
Manasquan Quaker Cemetery, Monmouth Co, NJ, USA. In the Friends of the Society of Quakers Religion it was customary to burry their dead with a white unmarked headstone until 1800 when the Society changed the custom to Inscripted headstones. In this cemetery you can see a number of white marble unmarked headstones (there are more to the right) for those died prior to 1800. In 1800 [Joseph; sic] Joshua Gifford son of Annaniah Gifford and Mary Halstead was buried in the cemetery with the first headstone inscribed. all these other unmarked represent Annaniah Gifford 1703-1758, wife Mary Halstead 1705-1770, son of Joseph Gifford 1677-1743, Wife Hope 1678-?, son of Hannaniah Gifford 1646-1709, wife Elizabeth Wardell 1645-1729, amongst others related or not
