Obituary: Colorado Transcript, Golden, Colorado August 8, 1935 Leland S. Boatright Is Fatally Injured in Old Swimming Hole The desire to take a dip in the old swimmin' hole near the Boatright ranch at Broomfield cost the life of Leland S. Boatright, prominent young Jefferson county lawyer last week. While preparing to take a dip Thursday afternoon with his brother, Prof. Byron B. Boatright of the School of Mines faculty, young Boatright sustained fatal injuries. He died in St. Anthony's hospital Friday morning. The two Boatrights were returning to Arvada from Boulder when they decided that the hot afternoon called for a swim. Leland was the first disrobed. He started into the water and evidently slipped, hitting his head on the bottom and severing the spinal cord. Byron Boatright had his back turned and did not witness the accident but he is convinced that his brother did not dive in, as first reported, because both men knew that the pond was shallow. After dragging his brother from the water, Prof. Boatright rushed him to St. Anthony's hospital, where he died the following morning. Young Boatright is survived by his parents former Attorney General William L. and Mrs. Boatright of Golden, his wife, Mrs. Helen Boatright, two children, Leland S. Jr., 10, and Robert, 3, two sisters, Mrs. Arlene Pratt of Chicago and Mrs. Virginia Tucker of Golden and his brother, Byron. He was a graduate of Golden high school and Westminster Law school. He also attended the Colorado School of Mines and Colorado Agriculture college. He was employed for several years in the state inheritance tax deparment but for the past two years has been engaged in the practice of law with his father. His home was in Arvada, CO. Funeral services were held in Denver Monday afternoon, with Father H. V. Cantbell of St. Anne's Shrine, Arvada, officiating.
