DIAGNOSTIC: End of Children List
General Notes for Theodore Minthorn
In 1837 Theodore left Mariposa and went back to Younge Street where he worked for Henry Wasley and married his daughter. In 1841 he bought a farm in Quaker Street, Norwich Twp., Canada. He and Mary and the children migrated from Canada to IA in 1859. They settled on the Lone Tree Farm about halfway between Springdale and West Branch, Ceder Co., IA. Here they children grew up. Mary taught her husband to read and write. He was known as a man of much wisdom and judgement. They were members of Red Ceder MM. After Theodore died, Mary sold Lone Tree Farm and bought a smaller farm about three-quarters of a mile south of West Branch and lived on it with her youngest son, Pennington until 1880. Then she and her daughters, Ellen and Phoebe with their families, joined a migration to Plymouth Co., IA. By 1889 she had moved with her small orphaned grandchild, May, to Newberg, OR where she lived until her death. She was a famous maker of hooked rugs and rag carpets and has been described as having nimble fingers and gentle purpose. She was a women of noteworthy steadiness of purpose and solidity of judgement.
