General Notes for Isham Shemuel Cooke
Shem and Temperance lived first in Granville Co. and then in Franklin Co. surrounded by family. Shem's sons Shem, William, John and Claiborne, daughter Felicia and Shem's brothers William and Roland and sister Ann remained within the five mile circle on the Granville-Franklin Co. line near Middle Creek. All of Shem's children were born in this area. Shem and Temperance raised seven children in NC between 1800 and 1818. What pushed them to move west when Shem was 45 years old? Pursuit of land seems like the obvious answer. Temperance's older sister, Mary and her husband Martin Nall, had settled in Putnam Co. GA. in 1815.

1790 census count shows Shemuel Cook, his wife, and 2 females residing in the house. Therefore, Elizabeth is living elsewhere with Delphia's 3 boys. Sons John and William Sr. are in same census. 1790 census, Franklin, North Carolina. Franklin & Granville counties are side by side, and Shem owned property in both counties (will provides this info)
