Marvin Lee Philippi, 77, of Stockton and formerly of Lodi, died Nov. 24, 2005. He was born Oct. 4, 1928, in Dallas, S.D.Mr. Philippi served in the U.S. Army and was a veteran of the Korean War. He retired after 29 years of working as a traffic engineer for the California Department of Transportation. He also owned and operated Marv's Refrigeration and Appliance Store in Stockton for several years.

He was a member of the Stockton Central Seventh-day Adventist Church. He was a member of the San Joaquin Orchid Society where he had been vice-president, the San Joaquin Bonsai Club, Sons in Retirement, the American Legion, Volunteers in Police Service and the Lockeford VFW Post No. 9009 where he served as chaplain.He enjoyed gardening, reading, making model ships and doing ceramic artwork while attending classes at San Joaquin Delta College.

He is survived by his wife Elsie; his children Lee Philippi, of Stockton, Barbara Pinch, of Stillwater, Minn., and Molly Mills, of Cloverdale; his brother, Ervin Philippi; and six grandchildren.A memorial service will be held Dec. 4 at 11 a.m. at the Stockton Central Seventh-day Adventist Church. Committal will be private at Cherokee Memorial Park in Lodi. Memorial contributions may be made to Stockton Central SDA Church, 1314 N. Madison St., Stockton, CA 95206. Cherokee Memorial Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Additional Information: Marvin Lee Philippi, son of William Philippi (born 26 Nov 1898 in OK) and Rebecca Steinert (born 15 Sep 1897 in KS), Grandson of George S. Steinert and Amalia (Molly) Schultz of Shcherbakovka and Shattuck, and Great-Grandson of George and Eva Margaret Steinert. A sister, Opal Joan (Philippi) Winans, born 1923 in South Dakota died 1992 in California, is not mentioned in the Obituary
