General Notes for John Scarborough
A blacksmith, whitesmith and coachsmith of Hosier Lane, London, England. Cme to America, according to the Genealogy of the Herbert Hoover Family, on the voyge of the Welcom in 1682 but this it not correct according to "The Welcome Claimants". As there were 23 ships that landed in William Penn's party, he and his only son more than likely arrived in American in 1682 but not on the Welcome. He settled near Langhorne, Bucks Co., PA on 250 acres bought from WIlliam Penn for 5 pounds. He was a member of Peel MM. Impressed with the kindness of the Indians during the hard winter, he charged his sone to remember the many favors received from them. He returned to England in 1684 to fetch his wife but she was afraid of the ocean trip. He had married Sarah Ashby 2/22/1663 and died 4/11/1706 London, England. He is buried in Burnhill Fields. His will made in 1696 was witnessed by William Penn.
