General Notes for Richard Roehr
Plymouth Review – Wednesday Jan. 15, 1902

RICHARD ROEHR SUICIDES
Hang Himself in a Barn at His Farm
Near the City
THE BODY FOUND SUSPENDED FROM A BEAM
He Had Lived in This Vicinity for Many Years – He Lacked but One Day of Completing His Fiftieth Year – He Leaves a Wife and Four Children

Richard Roehr, who owned a farm about a mile southeast of this city and who had been a resident of this vicinity for many years, ended his life yesterday by hanging himself in a barn at his home. Family trouble is supposed to have prompted the deed. It seems that early yesterday morning he had words with his wife and she together with the children left the place. The eldest, a young man of twenty years, drove to the home of Mrs. Roehr's brother, Wm. Hueppechen, and together with him and Fred Hein, Sr., step father of Mrs. Roehr, they returned to the farm. Mr. Roehr ordered them off the place and threatened their lives, whereupon they returned to the city and swore out a warrant for his arrest. Officer Wirtz on going to the place found the house and barn locked and it was not until he made a second trip that the body was found suspended from a beam in the barn. The authorities were notified and a coroner's jury impaneled, composed of Adam Wolf, J.A. Lindsay, A.P. Gilman, L. Trowbridge, Frank Henze and R. Gardner. After viewing the body adjournment was taken until ten o'clock this morning when the following verdict was read:

By committing suicide by hanging himself by a roped in his barn at his home in the town of Plymouth, We the undersigned believe that the deceased committed this act during a fit of temporary insanity.

Mr. Roehr would have completed his fiftieth year today. He was born in this county on the 15th of January, 1852, most of his life being spent in this immediate vicinity. Besides his wife he leaves four children, two sons and two daughters, all of whom are living at home.

The funeral takes place from the house tomorrow afternoon and will be under the auspices of the M.W.A., & A.O.U.W. of this city which societies the deceased was a member. The interment will be in the city cemetery.
